"Health Machine" - Sam Evian

"Health Machine" - Sam Evian

This song is my new obsession. The chord progression is so broken and yet stunningly pretty. And when the saxes deploy. Oh. My.

There's an album out in June (pre-order) and he's at The Islington on May 22nd. Also, other places. @sam3vian on Twitter and Facebook.

"Human For" - Sunflower Bean
One hell of an opening hook, structurally unexpected, proceed via brief psych rock interlude back to awesome hook, end. Job done.

"Moon" - Art School Girlfriend
Sultry synth pop bollard (sic) that sounds like it belongs on a Nicolas Winding Refn soundtrack. You know the one.

"Count It Up" - Field Music
This is not strictly a new new tune (February) but a friend mentioned they'd bought the album yesterday and it's probably the best record The Talking Heads never did. "Count It Up" is a terrific pop song.

"Wide Awake" - Parquet Courts
A single lyric and a vaguely latin beat. A funkier Blockheads? A whiter shade of Chic.

"Modern Music" - Dick Stusso
Honestly, I can't even tell if he's kidding but I caught myself humming the chorus so it must be good, right? Right?

"Lilies" - Bed Bug
Just. Fucking. Gorgeous. Sometimes it doesn't need to be big and clever.

"Nervous Mary" - The Breeders
The law of diminishing returns just doesn't seem apply to The Breeders.
