"Prior Things" - Hop Along

"Prior Things" - Hop Along

There's much to love about this, although I'm particularly partial to the little string arps that decorate the verses.

New album "Bark Your Head Off, Dog" out now on Saddle Creek. Find them on Twitter at @HopAlongtheband, Facebook at hopalongtheband.

Previously

"Take Care" - The Magic Gang
Staccato piano jabs, nice harmonies and once the distorted bass kicks in at the 2 min mark you can practically hear Ben Folds' lawyer spinning in his shallow, unmarked grave.

"From The Love That We Made" - EMA
First time I've heard anything by EMA ... this commences with proto-NIN dirge synths and scorned lyrics and then suddenly, marvellously comes together with an acidic acoustical flourish. Worth your time.

"The Memory Junkie" - Club Kuru
This one is coming direct and unashamedly from the 1977 London Reverb And Flange Championships. Beautiful.

"Milky Milk" - Dama Scout
I adore this - an aroma of Deerhoof early on and then it falls into that sort of big melodic-yet-melancholic turnaround thing that Autolux used to be so good at.

"City Looks Pretty" - Courtney Barnett
Apologies for the dead air, I appear to have borked something in the innards of the site. We're back and commencing broadcast with the wonderful Courtney Barnett who continues to emit a stream of fantastic tunes from her forthcoming record.

"Like a Fish" - Matt Maltese
Not the first time Mr. Maltese has graced these pages, definitely won't be the last. Tracks from his forthcoming record keep escaping and not a duff one yet.

"All Wordz Are Made Up" - The Voidz
There is a genuinely classic pop song being mangled here.
